New York City

Day One

Monday, 10/23/00. 1000 hours.
We were not mugged on the subway. It has been a good morning. Took the #7 train - of John Rocker Fame. The dude at the hotel told us it is only a 35-minute trip to the Javitt's center…took us "natives" an hour and a half. And we didn't even take the wrong train or bus. Javitt center is large. There are cute chicks everywhere. New York isn't nearly as bad as I thought it would be. Better quit now before I get in trouble. More later.

Monday, 10/23/00. 2230 hours.
It is later now. The two morning classes were kind of boring, but then it picked up some. We stayed in the same classroom all day even though there were maybe 5 other classes also going on simultaneously that we could've chosen form. Anyway, we skipped out around mid afternoon and went to tour Javitt's Center - where the convention is being held. Pretty cool…Microsoft is rumored to have a .5 million dollar booth - after looking at their setup operation (should be set up by Wednesday) I believe it. Hard to xplain how big this thing is. After reviewing the convention, we went to Times Square and Central Park. Times Square was pretty neat - spent some time trying to figure out where all those TV shows are filmed in the morning. Will probably have to go back there again as I don't think we saw half of it. Central Park was actually very nice. Green and quiet. Lots of dogs. Dogs pooping everywhere. After our short walk in the park, we went around the corner and ate at Mickey Mantle's restaurant, then we took a cab home. No subway after dark for this white boy. Tomorrow will likely bring more sight seeing - and hopefully better pictures. These were taken with the digital camera at the lowest quality setting, so they are pretty sorry. My co-worker has a bruise where I hit him over the head for that gaffe. Won't happen again.
